155: Reflections
by ML
The candle reflects in the dresser mirror and in the mirror above the bed as well, repeating and repeating into infinity.
She can’t help but remember other times and places. He has his ghosts, and she has hers.
Their reflections look insubstantial in the flickering candle and rain-light. Flashes of lightning conceal more than they reveal, like glimpses of truth gone before they are fully explained.
She closes her eyes and burrows into his neck, feeling his arms tighten around her in response. He feels and smells and sounds real. He is someone to put her back against and to stand shoulder to shoulder with. He is both candle and mirror: she is drawn to his truth like a moth to a flame, and she sees her own truth reflected in him.
Without knowing her thoughts, he thinks the same of her.

Hands shaking, fingers tentative, he reaches out to stroke her breasts.
She arches toward him, inviting his touch.
Lips meet lips and part to invite and welcome questing tongues.
Her hands trail from his face to his chest, stopping to play with his suddenly sensitized nipples. He mirrors her actions, feeling his body quicken under her hands. He’s wanted this so badly for so long, he’s almost afraid to go on.
She helps him. She guides him closer to where she wants him, to where he wants to be.
There are no words to be said; they’ve always done their best communication with looks and touches. Why speak when mouths can be used in much more tantalizing ways? The touches, always yearned for and bestowed with great pleasure, have now become mutual.
She strokes him, beckoning him closer. Her eyes tell him everything. He enters at her invitation and knows he is home to stay.

At the first opportunity, Mulder sneaked into the NASA gift shop.
Yes, they had a job to do but he couldn’t pass this chance up. He edged around the shuffling tourists, fingering T-shirts, peering into display cases.
The key rings caught his eye. They brought back memories of a warm summer night, running into the cool dark house to see the grainy image of a man on the moon.
His father said, “It’s only one man standing there, but the men back here on Earth have his back. He didn’t get there alone.”
The words stuck with Mulder. Only recently, however, had he discovered the truth of them.
The clerk asked, “Is this a gift?”
He hesitated. If he gave it to Scully, would she understand? Maybe it was too soon.
Maybe one day he would give it to her. When the time was right. He pocketed his purchase and went to find his partner.
